Plan to offer medical cover for patients

Pacific Specialist Healthcare (PSH) in Nadi is working with medical insurers on providing medical cover for patients.

Founder and chief executive officer Parvish Kumar said the initiative was in line with the Government’s vision of promoting the country as a competitive and attractive medical tourist destination.

“Insurers can now spend a fraction of what they would normally pay for their customers for treatment overseas,” Mr Kumar said.

“This also opens a door of opportunity for overseas-based insurance firms which can still save substantial amounts of money by encouraging their customers to visit Fiji on a medical holiday package.

Mr Kumar said with the setting up of the all-new cardiology department and the first successful triple graft heart bypass surgery, the hospital was all geared up to provide, not just heart surgeries, but other complicated treatments previously unheard of in Fiji, and that too at a fraction of the cost charged overseas.

“A heart bypass surgery could cost a patient around $50,000 in India and this could be six-fold higher in our neighbouring countries.
