Fiji’s largest state-of-the-art 130-bed specialty private hospital continues to make headlines for all the good reasons.
There is more exciting news coming for 2025, says PaciƝc Specialist Healthcare (PSH Hospital) founder and chief executive officer Parvish Kumar.
Mr Kumar said the hospital management had great pleasure in introducing Dr Srikar Miryala, who was one of the best in his Neld.
“Dr Srikar Miryala will now be based in-house and be available during emergency calls also.
We have accommodated him near the hospital vicinity so that he will be able to attend to any emergency situations that come to us,” Mr Kumar said.
“Our angiogram and angioplasty services are also up and running and Dr Srikar is well-versed with these procedures from his work experience in India.
“To make these services affordable and accessible to general members of the public both in Fiji and the greater PaciƝc community, we have rolled out very cost effective offers which will be far better than other private hospitals in the region.
“PSH Hospital Nadi now operates 24/7 and patients are welcome to visit us any time of the day or night on any day of the week.”
Dr Miryala who hails from India has now settled well in his new role in Nadi and was excited when asked about his thoughts of accepting this challenging role in Fiji.
“When I initially got a call from Mr Parvish Kumar, and he informed me about PSH Hospital, I was a little skeptical and wondered when he said there is a real requirement of a cardiologist in Fiji,” Dr Miryala said.
“I then had to browse a little to know it was true and accepted this exciting offer far away from my homeland,” Dr Miryala added.
“Here at PSH Hospitals, I together with my excellent team provide the best in medical services in coronary as well as peripheral artery diseases for patients from Fiji and other PaciƝc Island countries including tourists.”
Originally from Hyderabad, a city in the state of Telangana in South India, Mr Miryala did his graduation and super speciality in cardiology from the prestigious Osmania Medical College situated in his home city.
“As an interventional cardiologist, I have an experience of successfully nishing more than 10,000 angiograms and angioplasties (stenting) in my career.”
Meanwhile, PSH Hospital which is situated a stone’s throw away from the Nadi International Airport has achieved a milestone by successfully executing back-to-back open-heart surgeries on three consecutive days from Monday, January 13 to Wednesday, January 15.
The key highlight of the January surgeries was the successful quadruple graft heart bypass surgery on a patient and that too without the use of a single drop of blood transfusion and minimal blood loss while performing the procedure because of the patient’s religious beliefs as a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation.
Since November last year, the hospital has given renewed leases of life to many heart patients who all were discharged within Ɲve-days of their delicate procedures by a team of highly trained and experienced cardio thoracic specialists led by Dr Sanjeev Khulbey, who has thirty-years of experience as a cardio thoracic surgeon.
The initial open-heart surgery in November also coincided with the setting up of the multi-million-dollar cardiology department and operations theatre which was a result of 15-months of meticulous planning and procurement of the most modern medical equipment from reliable sources across the world.
Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr Atonio Lalabalavu, who visited the hospital on the evening of Wednesday, January 15 soon after the completion of the open-heart surgery of that day was extremely impressed with the unprecedented achievement and record-breaking milestone by the team of highly dedicated cardiology specialists at PSH Hospital.
The second round of back-to-back open-heart surgeries for this year is scheduled to resume this month-end.
What is an angiogram?
Angiogram also known as angiography or arteriography is a medical imaging technique used to visualise the inside, or lumen, of blood vessels and organs of the body, with particular interest in the arteries, veins, and the heart chambers.
What is an angioplasty (stenting)?
Angioplasty or stenting is a minimally invasive procedure that involves placing a stent into a narrowed or blocked blood vessel or airway. Stents are often used to treat coronary artery disease, aneurysms, and airway blockages. It’s also known as balloon angioplasty or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
